The Silverstone Classic last weekend saw a number of our Club members wandering around the paddock and in the BRDC clubhouse led by our President, Howden Ganley who was seen standing outside the gates of the Clubhouse at 0750 hours which illustrates either his enthusiasm or his madness.

However the big surprise was to see our popular member Tim Parnell, former racing driver ( Lotus 18) and Team Manager of his father’s Parnell Racing team in F1 and BRM. Tim has been seriously ill for some time and we have not seen him at one of the Club events for nearly two years now. However in the Clubhouse I met his wife Liz and asked her how Tim was. She told me to ask him myself as she had eventually persuaded him to come to Silverstone for the Classic as it is one of his favourite events. He was in a wheel chair but as Liz explained, as she went to get him a drink from the bar,  “….you will find him over there surrounded by women” . Right enough Tim was there, smiling as usual but almost seeming bemused by all the attention he was getting.

I am sure all Club members will welcome him back to events and we look forward to him being fit enough to attend many more.
